Let's be honest about the most anticlimactic way to ruin a great F1 tee.
You find the design. The Hamilton one, or the Senna Monaco '88, or that Verstappen graphic you've been eyeing for a week. You order it. It arrives. And it's a size off — too boxy, too short, sleeves in the wrong place. Suddenly a tee you loved lives at the back of the cupboard.
Here's the thing — that outcome is almost entirely avoidable. Ninety percent of sizing regret comes down to two minutes of measuring you skipped before checkout. So this is the guide we wish every F1 fan read before their first order. Just how to get the fit right the first time — and what to do if it still doesn't work out.
First, know what fit you're actually buying
This is where most people go wrong. They assume "size M is size M." It isn't — not across different styles, and definitely not across different brands. At Turn1 we (currently) sell four distinct apparel types, and each one wears differently.
Oversized tees are our signature product. These are meant to sit loose — dropped shoulders, relaxed body, a bit of length. This is the streetwear silhouette you see on most of our driver and circuit tees, like the It's Hammertime or the Suzuka Circuit tees. They run from XS to XXL. Originally S was the smallest size in our Oversized collection - but due to customer demand and to accommodate buyers with smaller body sizes, we customised and added the XS variant. If you want the intended oversized look, you order your normal size. If you want a closer-to-body fit, go one size smaller.
Most of the size exchange requests we have received in the past are for our oversized t-shirts, and often the request is to go one size down. So if you're in doubt between M and L, we'd suggest go with M.
Regular-fit tees sit closer to the body — a classic t-shirt cut, not tight, not tented. If oversized isn't your thing and you just want a clean, everyday fit, this is your lane. These also run XS to XXL. Do note that our regular fit t-shirts use a relatively lightweight fabric (100% cotton, ~200-220 GSM) compared to the oversized range, but these are much more comfortable and feel light which is very important especially in a hot and humid country like India. We have a fairly limited collection when it comes to regular fit t-shirts, but we're working on increasing it further.
Crop tops are cut for a cropped, fitted silhouette and are designed specifically for women. All of our crop tops — like the Ferrari Crop Top — run XS to XL. Because the cut is more fitted, your measurements matter more here than on an oversized tee. Go with the size you typically choose for your regular fit tees, and you should be fine. If in doubt, just measure any of your existing tops with an inch tape and refer to the size chart available on each product page.
Sweatshirts are heavier, warmer, and cut for layering. They run S to XXL. If you plan to wear a tee underneath, factor that in.
The single most useful habit: don't shop by the letter on the label. Shop by the measurements on the product page. Which brings us to the actual method.
The one method that never fails: measure a tee you already own
Forget guessing from your "usual" size. Here's the approach that works every single time, and takes about two minutes.
Find a t-shirt you already own and genuinely love the fit of. Lay it flat on a table, smoothed out, no wrinkles. Now measure two things:
Chest width — measure straight across from armpit to armpit. Don't go around your body; measure the garment laid flat. This one number is the most important measurement in the entire process.
Length — measure from the highest point of the shoulder straight down to the hem.
Now go to the product page of the Turn1 tee you want and open the size chart — it's on every product page and also in the product images. Match your chest-width number to the chart. That's your size.
If your ideal tee measures 54 cm across the chest and the size chart says a Large is 54 cm, you're a Large — regardless of whether you "usually wear M." Brands cut differently. The tape doesn't lie.
A few fit truths specific to Indian buyers
International oversized sizing tends to run genuinely huge — a "medium" oversized tee from a US brand can swallow an average Indian frame. Our oversized fits are cut to sit relaxed without turning into a dress on you, but the principle holds: check the numbers, don't assume.
Two quick calls that save the most grief:
If you're between two sizes on an oversized tee, go with the smaller one unless you specifically want the extra-baggy look. Oversized already has room built in.
If you're shorter than 5'6", watch the length number carefully. An oversized tee that looks perfect on someone taller can read as a tunic on a shorter frame. The length measurement is your friend here — compare it honestly against a tee you own.
For crop tops, the opposite instinct applies. Because the fit is more fitted and the cut is cropped, going too small is the more common mistake. Measure a fitted top you own and match it properly.
What about washing and shrinkage?
Fair question, and it changes how you should size. All our tees are pre-shrunk and bio-washed, and we use premium cotton specifically so the fit you get on day one is the fit you keep. There's no "order a size up to survive the first wash" tax here — order for the fit you want now. Wash cold, skip the dryer, and the tee holds its shape and its print. (We wear our own tees. We'd notice if they didn't.)
If the fit still isn't right: how size exchanges work
We put this much effort into helping you measure because we're a small, made-to-order brand — every tee is printed specifically for your order after you place it. That's how we keep the designs original and the print quality premium. It also means we can't offer free size swaps the way a big warehouse-stocked retailer can.
But — and this is the part we want you to know before you worry — you're not stranded if the fit is off. We do offer size exchanges, you just need to cover the shipping fees. Here's exactly how it works:
Reach out to us at abhijit@turn1.in (preferred) or on WhatsApp at +91 95830 82922 and tell us what you need. You'll self-ship the item back to us — we'll share the address — and the piece needs to come back unused, in its original packaging, with the brand tags intact. Once we receive and verify it, we'll make your new size and ship it out with our next production batch. There's a nominal ₹129 per piece re-shipping fee to cover sending the new size back to you.
It's a straightforward process, and we'll walk you through it. But it does take a little time and a small fee — which is exactly why the two minutes with a measuring tape upfront is worth it. Get it right the first time and you skip the round trip entirely. The full details are on our return and cancellation page, which also covers printing errors, shipping damage, and lost parcels — those are on us, and we make them right, no question.
Quick recap before you order
- Know the fit type — oversized (relaxed, dropped shoulder), regular (classic), crop top (fitted, cropped), or sweatshirt (heavier, layering).
- Measure a tee you own and love — chest width armpit-to-armpit, plus length. This is the whole trick.
- Match measurements to the size chart on the product page and images — not your assumed size.
- Between sizes on oversized? Size down unless you want extra baggy. Shorter than 5'6"? Check the length.
- No shrinkage tax — tees are pre-shrunk, so order for the fit you want today.
- If it's still off, exchanges exist — unused, tags intact, self-shipped back, ₹129/pc re-shipping. Measuring first saves you the trip.
Get the size right, and an F1 tee stops being a gamble and becomes the thing you reach for on every race weekend. Ready to put it into practice? Browse the full range of F1 t-shirts, driver tees, circuit tees, and crop tops — and measure first.
Lights out.
